CSP CONCRETE AND STONE PREPARER

A Cleaner for Cementatious Grouting of Ceramic Tile Floors
And for Cleaning of Efflorescence from Building Exteriors

Description
CSP is a dilute mineral acid solution, which cleans cementatious grouting and restores the appearance to ceramic tile floors.  Even, black with dirt grout joints are quickly and easily returned to their original color with CSP, and in addition to making ceramic tile floors look beautiful, It increases their slip resistance, removes mineral deposits and is ideal to use before sealing or impregnating. CSP is also an outstanding cleaner of efflorescence from the exteriors of buildings.

Easy to Use
CSP comes ready to use, and all it has to do is be applied, agitated and rinsed.  No special equipment is required to use it.

Safe
In spite of its bubbling up and looking dramatic, CSP is safe for grouting because it only works on the treated area's surface.  It does not penetrate and weaken the masonry substrate as do powerful acids, nor is it capable of burning ceramic tile floors.  CSP is safe and effective to use on the following surfaces

  • Glazed ceramic tile
  • Unglazed ceramic tile
  • Quarry tile
  • Porcelain tile
  • Granite tile
  • Mexican tile
Patch Test
Before cleaning with CSP, it is necessary to do a patch test.  This will determine the product’s suitability and whether there are any sealers present.  Pour a small amount of CSP directly on to the floor in an inconspicuous area and lightly agitate it with a stiff bristled brush.  Look for bubbling to appear in the grout joints.  If it does not, a sealer is preventing CSP from working, and the floor must be stripped before proceeding.  Ordinary floor strippers remove water-based sealers, but if a solvent-based sealer is present, Environmental Coating’s DBX Safety Paint Stripper can be used to remove it.  Upon completing stripping, repeat the test procedure.  When bubbling occurs, allow CSP 10 to 20 minutes to work, and afterwards, agitate the test area a second time and rinse.  Because grout joints appear darker while wet, allow the test area to completely dry before assessing the results.

CAUTION: CSP removes the coloring from some types of dyed grouting.  If for any reason CSP is unsuitable to use, the patch test should reveal it.

Precautions
Adjacent areas must be protected when using this product.  Cover nearby polished limestone & marble with Environmental Coating’s Peel Clean Strippable Coating or thick plastic film and plastic tape, and immediately rinse CSP off other surfaces it contacts.

Preparations
1) Before CSP can be used, surfaces must be dry and completely free of sealers (See Patch Test).

Application
1) Apply CSP undiluted, thoroughly wetting the surface.  On floors, the easiest way to do this is to pour it directly onto the surface and spread it out with a mop. It is not recommended that CSP be run through an auto scrubber.
2) Agitate CSP lightly to disperse it into the grout joints. On large areas, a floor machine with a scrubbing brush attachment works best.
3) Allow CSP time to work.  This usually takes about 15 minutes, but there is no hurry to rinse it off.  CSP can be left on ceramic tile floors safely for up to an hour or possibly longer.
4) Agitate the surface a second time to remove the loosened grime, and rinse.  For this procedure, an auto scrubber is ideal to use, but if one is unavailable or impractical to use, the best way to rinse CSP is to flood rinse and wet vac.
WARNING: While applied, CSP makes surfaces slippery.  Take necessary precautions to prevent falls.

Limitations
1) Though CSP restores the appearance to most ceramic tile floors, it is incapable of deep cleaning unglazed ceramic tile.  If dirty tile (and not grout joints) is the problem, EZKleen #4 Stone Cleaner can be used to clean it.
2) CSP is not maintenance cleaner.  Rather it is designed to restore the appearance to ceramic tile floors.  If used repeatedly on the same surface, CSP loses its effectiveness.  If treated floors get dirty and rapidly lose their appearance, Environmental Coatings’ PWP® silicone impregnator is recommended to seal the grouting and protect the floor.

Safety
Wear rubber gloves, safety goggles and ventilate enclosed areas when handling CSP, and if it gets on skin or into eyes, rinse thoroughly with water.  See Material Safety Data Sheet for more detailed hazard evaluation and safety information.
