Description
Coating Remover is a non-hazardous, water-soluble paint stripping solution
which effectively softens coatings and topical sealers, permitting their
easy removal. It works on conventional water-based and solvent-based paints,
varnishes and sealers as well as urethane and epoxy formulations.
Despite the fact, this safety formula contains no highly toxic
solvents or caustics, it retains benefits associated with each.
Like methylene chloride containing paint strippers, Coating Remover
is a molecule expanding formula, so it works on virtually all types
of coatings and sealers. And it is long lasting, so, like caustics,
it is able to remove multiple layers of built up coatings without rapidly
evaporating and losing its strength.
Easy to Use
No special equipment or precautions are required to use Coating Remover.
All it has to do is to be applied and given time to work. Coating Remover
is incapable of burning skin, and because it is almost odorless, it
is easy to use safely indoors. In addition, there is never a hurry to
remove finishes. It continues working for hours, and once coatings are
satisfactorily softened, they are simply scraped or agitated off. Clean
up is easy, too, because Coating Remover is water soluble, and treated
surfaces never need to be neutralized.
Surfaces
Coating Remover removes coatings and sealers safely from virtually any
substrate. It will not harm any form of masonry, metal, glass, plaster
and fiberglass, and because it cannot discolor it or raise its grain,
it is particularly good to use on wood. (However, it is not recommended
to be used on resilient tile floors),

Floors
Coating Remover is so safe and effective, it can be used almost anywhere.
However, because it is a solution formula, itX is usually best used on
floors. It applies easily to them and spreads out quickly. For most other
paint stripping applications, EZKleen has another product called EZKleen
Coating Remover Gel. It is a thickened mixture paint stripping formula,
which adheres to vertical surfaces without running off.
Technical Data
Appearance/Odor: Lightly colored to clear solution
mild sweet aroma
Packaging: Available in cases of 4x1 gal. plastic bottles,
5 gal. metal pails and 55 gal. metal drums.
Temperature Range: Becomes less effective as temperature
get colder. May be unsuitable to use below 50°.
Coverage: Depending on the type of coatings and no.
of layers being removed, approximately 75 to 100 sq. ft./gal.
Storage/Shelf Life: Keep in sealed containers in a
well ventilated area. As long as DBX is not allowed to evaporate, shelf
life is indefinite.
Patch Test
Because it is difficult to determine the type or amount of coatings
present on a surface, a small test area should be stripped before beginning
the work. This will determine Coating Remover’s effectiveness,
coverage and the approximate amount of time required for it to work.
Directions
1. Prepare the area being stripped by masking off adjacent areas
with polyethylene sheeting and tape.
2. Apply Coating Remover, completely wetting the surface. Do
this by brushing, rolling or spraying. However, the easiest way to apply
DBX to floors is to pour it directly onto the surface and spread it
out with a mop.
3. Let it work, softening coatings and sealers. Because
finishes must be completely softened for removal, this is the most critical
step when using it. Depending on the type and amount of paint or sealers
present, this requires anywhere from several minutes to several hours.
4. Test the finish to determine if it’s ready for removal.
Scratch a small area, and if the finish comes up easily, proceed
to the next step. Otherwise, give it more time to work. As long as the
material glistens, wet, on the surface, it is still absorbing into and
softening sealers and coatings. If, however, the finish doesn’t
come up easily and Coating Remover isn’t glistening anymore, apply
additional material and, after permitting it to work, test the surface
again. Repeat this procedure until finishes come up easily. Note: In
some instances Coating Remover only makes sealers gummy. If this occurs,
continue to apply additional material and agitate the surface until
the finish liquefies.
5. Remove the softened finish. On interior walls, woodwork
and trim, a putty knife usually works best for this procedure, removing
the finish in sheets. Elsewhere, high-pressure water does a good job,
but on interior floors, the best way to remove softened finishes is
by agitating them with a floor machine, using a stripping brush.
6. Clean up. Do this by agitating the surface with
soapy water, and on floors, the slurry is wet vacced up.
Precautions
Wear oil resistant rubber gloves and use eye protection. Ventilate enclosed
areas, and because Coating Remover softens some types of rubber and
vinyl, wear oil resistant footwear. If spraying or misting DBX, wear
NIOSH approved respiratory equipment. See M.S.D.S. for additional hazard
evaluation and safety information.
Rejuvenator
Because it sprays so easily, Coating Remover is ideal to use rejuvenating
surfaces treated with EZKleen Coating Remover Gel.
Disposal
Coating Remover is readily biodegradable and environmentally safe. However,
some coatings can contain lead and other heavy metals. If it is used
to remove contaminated coatings, the waste it produces is toxic and
considered hazardous. Safely dispose of all waste according to federal,
state and local regulations.
